Cacub and Barangay Rotonda attempt to lead the BEP 2023

April 26, 2023

Both Barangay Rotonda and Cacub are attempting to take the lead in the Barangay Empowerment Program (BEP) 2023, in the rural category following the exemption of Brgy. Caloocan from participating in the race. Caloocan is considered the fierce contender of rural barangays in the said challenge.

“Tani makuha na namon ang first place sa BEP subong nga tuig kag tinguhaon gid namon.” (We hope we can get first place in BEP this year and we will try it.) Barangay Rotonda Chairperson Jerry Marmonejo said when he was interviewed on City’s FB live program “Tingog sang Pagsanyog,” while pursuing to reach the desired triumph.

Meanwhile, while waiting for the contest proper, the said barangay is also starting to prepare. The preparations include groundwork like roadside beautification to maintain its cleanliness, holding a meeting with the purok officials, and encouraging everyone’s participation to ensure that unity and cooperation will continue and the drive of being first place will be achieved.

Marmonejo also commended the efforts of Rotonda Elementary and National High Schools which has an immeasurable contribution to the beautification of their roadsides. He stated that without the help of the said agency, they will definitely have a hard time since their assistance is a big reduction in what they have to work on.

Barangay Captain Oscar Magluyan of Cacub, on the other hand, admitted their little bit of disappointment in dropping from second place for two consecutive years to third place in the last competition. “Medyo apektado kami sa pagbag-o sang amon pwesto, pero indi masyado kay gindawat namon ang kamatuuran kag nag-obra liwat,” Nevertheless, Magluyan said that instead of complaining, their barangay decided to get through and start working over to get back that stemmed them in staying at the top 3. Thus, the devastation of the calamity in their area that caused huge damage and hampered their entire preparation and what they have already started is cited as the reason for their downfall.

Since Brgy. Cacub is also determined to take first place; they have begun to strategize in which all sectors are urged to participate in all activities that even senior citizens are not exempt from.

Consequently, Magluyan told that good governance and transparency are the legacies that the barangay council of Cacub wishes to leave to their people.

Further, Brgy. Chairpersons Marmonejo and Magluyan both acknowledged the significant impact of BEP because through the said program they imperceptibly upgraded their necessities not only the barangay but also their puroks. One of their priorities is the roadside beautification, installation of led lights along roadsides, and some unlit parts of their places which is also a preference of other barangays in the city.

Brgy. Rotonda bagged a total amount of Php4.335 million pesos including cash incentives from minor awards while Brgy. Cacub gripped a total of Php5, 360 million pesos.
