San Jose IP communities receive food aid, civil registration services

July 7, 2020

A team of community organizers and coordinators from LGU Koronadal visited the highlands of Barangay San Jose to extend assistance for the Blaan communities in Purok Highpoint, Purok Riverside, Purok Lower Supon, and Purok Maawain of the said barangay.

A total of 230 food packs were distributed to the residents. Each food pack includes 3 kilos rice, biscuits, milk, noodles, and canned goods, courtesy of Senator Bong Go and South Cotabato 2nd District Representative Dinand Hernandez. The children enjoyed chocolate drinks and cereals, thanks to a donation from Nestlé Philippines.

In line with the Civil Registry Month, the City Civil Registrar’s Office brought their services closer to the people of the said communities by rendering free registration of delayed birth and marriage certificates. The said initiative was in partnership with Philippine Statistics Authority-South Cotabato, Community Affairs Office and the Office of Indigenous Peoples’ Mandatory Representative Antonio Abing.

Residents of the four puroks also raised to City Mayor Eliordo U. Ogena their major concerns on the lack of proper water supply in their area. The mayor then assured to look into the problem and have it prioritized before the end of his term.

“Sige lang, pagatutukan naton ina… gusto ko mabal-an anay ang costing kung pila, bag-o kita mag promisa. Pero ning tubig nga problema ninyo, (sa) termino ko, three years, magka-tubig na ina siya.”
