KATROPA Congress: shaping men on their role
To help shape men on their role and to mobilize them as partners in woman empowerment and gender equality, the City Population Office gathered the KAlalakihang Tapat sa Responsibilidad at Obligasyon sa PAmilya (KATROPA) members of the 27 barangays in a Congress.
Now on its 4th year, the congress focused on capacitating the men by giving due importance on their health. Dr. Stephen Mortera lectured on the variety of diseases and disorders that can affect men.
To highlight the role of men in promoting maternal and child health and responsible parenting, City Population Officer Nancy A. Adalin lectured on the latter.
KATROPA as a program strives to support men by providing them information on important and relevant parenting topics to include; Me as a Man, Me as a Father, Strengthening Marital Relationship, MNCHN/ Family Planning and Protecting My Partner from Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
To increase the men’s involvement in responsible parenthood and family planning, the City Population Office strategized activities to include; congress, reorganizational meetings, seminars and orientations to the 27 barangays since 2017. Also, they focused on the long-term programs for sustainable development.
Through the congress conducted on December 4 at Villa Princessita, KATROPA members are expected to live on the values of what they learned, to take responsibility for their own health, sexual, and reproductive behavior as well as their social and family roles.
