Zero polio cases in Koronadal is attainable
The City Health Office (CHO) is determined to achieve zero polio cases in the City of Koronadal. This is in line with the “Sabayang Patak Kontra Polio” program which has been simultaneously conducted throughout the country for the second round.
“Ako’y nananawagan sa lahat ng mga magulang na may anak limang (5) taong gulang pababa na pabakunahan ang mga ito kontra polio,” acting City Health Officer Dr. Edito Vego said in an interview. He called for full cooperation and support to the program to combat the poliovirus. Dr. Vego further stressed that children must be vaccinated to elude from the devastating effect brought by the said illness.
The CHO strongly encouraged the parents to avail the vaccine which is free and readily available in the city health office considering the very alarming situation where the neighboring provinces like Sultan Kudarat and Maguindanao have reportedly polio cases. To make the polio vaccine more accessible, aside from the house to house visit, the CHO had also placed vaccination centers in all public areas like malls, terminals, churches, daycare centers, market, and other nearby areas. The vaccination started from 8:00 a.m to 5:00 p.m. daily (Monday-Sunday) except for the school on weekends and those children who were already vaccinated their little fingers have been marked with ink.
The second round of “Sabayang Patak Kontra Polio” started on January 20 and will end on February 2, this year while another two (2) more rounds will possibly be conducted in April.
