City Govt, Fil-Chi Community look forward for good fortune
The city government and the Filipino-Chinese Community of Koronadal exchanged wishes of good fortune as they both anticipated the celebration of Chinese New Year last January 23, held for the first time at the City Hall Grounds.
The city celebrated this annual event to witness the rich culture and tradition of the Chinese community and recognized their contribution in the city’s economic thrust.
Governor for Chamber of Commerce Southwestern Mindanao Chapter Loreta Sy expressed her gratitude for making this special holiday a part of Koronadal’s cultural calendar.
“Tonight is not only a celebration of welcoming the metal rat year but also a thanksgiving of continuity of the deepening links between the people of Koronadal and the Chinese community, who contributed to enrich the lives of Koronadalenos through various business we operated before and onwards.”
In her speech, she recalled her experiences of her early years in Koronadal when the government seemed unapproachable to Chinese merchants.
“But now, with this linking our culture with the Chinese community, I inspire to move on and go on with the Filipino community.”
City Mayor Eliordo Ogena took note of her statement, vowing to make the seat of power accessible and transparent for all citizens.
“Congratulations to the Chinese community, hopefully you’ll not get tired of helping the city… at bilang halal na executive ng bayang ito, huwag niyong katakutan ang city government, tutulong kami sa inyo, to make it easier for you,” the mayor assured in his message.
The occasion was made lively with traditional Chinese performances from Koronadal Southern Elementary School, a sumptuous Lauriat-style dinner, and a grand fireworks display.
