BFP encourages fire safety for Fire Prevention Month
2019 damages on property caused by fire-related incidents summed up to 7 billion pesos nationwide, according to Bureau of Fire Protection.
During the kick-off ceremony of the Fire Prevention Month, BFP Superintendent Louie S. Puracan, CEO VI revealed that 2 billion pesos worth of properties were damaged in Region XII last year due to fire incidents. This caused the regional superintendent to enforce stricter fire collection fees and fines to collect enough money to purchase firetrucks, safety equipment, and construction of additional fire stations in the region.
City Fire Martial CINSP Eddie W. Tanawan encourages citizens to stay alert and be informed on how to prevent fire breakouts in their community for the safety of each family.
“Indeed, fire prevention is everybody’s concern, and fire safety practices should be part of our daily activities, of our daily living. This advocacy campaign, we should exercise diligence and should be more aware and knowledgeable about fire prevention to keep ourselves and family safe. Kaya tayo na, sabay-sabay tayong matuto na sunog ay iwasan”, City Fire Martial CINSP Eddie W. Tanawan said.
The Fire Prevention Month comes with activities such as programs in barangays called Oplan Ligtas Mamamayan, specifically in Concepcion and San Isidro in the third and fourth week of March, and a culmination activity will set off on March 31 at the City Hall Grounds along with the launching of Fire Olympics.
