Brgy Esperanza farmers taking the lead to better livelihood
Farmers producing various crops and livestock in Barangay Esperanza, Koronadal City collectively decides to put up a farmer’s association to increase potential profit and build a strong network of food growers in their barangay.
To assist the farmers, the City Agriculture Office (City Agri) together with the City Cooperative Office (City Coop) willfully conducted an orientation last June 18 about their collective start-up to guide the said endeavor.
Esperanza Barangay Chairman Edgardo Cabardo and Committee on Agriculture Kagawad Nelson Morales spearheaded the said event and welcomes the new members and elected officials of their new organization, aptly named ‘Esperanza Farmer’s Association’.
Daniel Langga Jr., Cooperative Development Specialist II of City Coop lectured a primer on the benefits of establishing cooperatives especially for the agriculture sector, and laying the guidelines on their next steps of action.
Meanwhile, City Agricultural Technician I Leonardo Asperga, who facilitated the program, said that the department will continue to guide the farmers in taking the next steps necessary such as the oathtaking of elected officials and the planning of programs and business models for their association.
The said farmers are beneficiaries of recovery and assistance programs of the Department of Agriculture.
