Mayor Ogena envisions Koronadal as a ‘web city’
“To become a web city”, this is how Mayor Eliordo Ogena envisioned the City of Koronadal as he highlighted the sustainability efforts of the City Government to enable residents to adapt to emerging trends.
During the recent signing of Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT), he said that this is the time for the city to have access to a fast internet connection so that it will not be left out and can compete with other cities and advanced countries considering that the people’s lifestyle nowadays is very dependent on technology.
The said project aims for the installation of free WI-FI in public places like the city hall and Rizal Park. The mayor believes that having a free internet connection for the public will make their transactions easier and convenient while it can also encourage entrepreneurs to invest in the city.
Meanwhile, after the delay in the implementation of some programs and projects due to the covid-19 pandemic, the mayor announced its resumption this month of June and several of them had already started. These include renovating and beautifying the Rizal Park with a budget allocation of Php21, 000,000.
Also, the city’s roadside development as well as the landscaping of the Blok creek is about to begin while bidding for the construction of the satellite market has been completed.
Further, the city government will also receive Php10, 000,000 from Sen. Bong Go intended for the acquisition of solar lights. It will be installed specifically on the main roads of Barangay Gen. Paulino Santos (GPS) towards the stretch of barangay Avanceña. The Mayor said that he preferred to install solar lights in order for the barangays to save on their electricity bill. Meanwhile, bidding for the led light to be placed on the national highway is set to take place. “Let’s replace the red light with the led light because I want the city’s main thoroughfares to be lighted incandescently,” Mayor Ogena said.
Further, new dump trucks are expected to be assigned under the care and use of the 27 barangays. In line with this, the mayor reminded the barangay officials on the full swing implementation of the city’s “Clean and Green Program” despite the pandemic and the search for the Best Performing Barangay is on. The Mayor emphasized that this is the time wherein the skills, leadership, and initiative of every leader are tested.
The prizes of the winning barangays will be awarded in January next year (2021) during the Koronadal’s Founding Anniversary and Hinugyaw Festival celebration.
