LGU Koronadal buys 2,730 kilos of veggies from local farmers as relief packs
The City Government of Koronadal spearheaded by the City Agriculture Office has bought 2,730 kilos of assorted produce from local farmers as part of relief ops for the urban poor.
Aside from providing nutritious food for the residents, this is also the city govt’s way of helping local farmers sell their supply affected by the global pandemic.
The vegetables were distributed to around 1,200 poor families belonging to the urban barangays with an allocated budget of P67,900.
According to Economic Consultant Rey Legaste, they prioritize the urban poor areas in the locality since most in rural have areas for crop cultivation.
“Posible nga maka tatlo asta apat ka beses pa nga pamakal sa farmers kay sige pa man ang harvest subong,” Legaste added.
In total, the city procured 560 kilos of kalabasa; 400 kilos each of eggplant, upo and pipino; 350 kilos of ampalaya; and 320 kilos of patola.
The vegetable distribution through the Community Affairs Office (CAO) has started on Wednesday, June 24 at Barangay Mambucal and urban poor subdivision of Barangay San Isidro.
