CHO, sets to conduct third round of “Sabayang Patak Kontra Polio”
The City Health Office (CHO) is set to conduct its third round of “Sabayang Patak Kontra Polio” this coming July 20 – August 2, based on the order issued by the Department of Health (DOH) Region XII.
Acting City Health Officer Dr. Edito Vego said that once the activity commence the recipients would expect some changes in child handling. He also wants to make sure that the Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) who lead the implementation in the field will have adequate protection such as the wearing of face masks and gloves before they would face the children.
Dr. Vego emphasized on the importance of prevention because covid cases in the country continue to rise despite relentless reminders to the public. For now, the CHO is still considering whether to continue the house-to-house campaign against poliovirus because apart from maintaining physical distancing which is one (1) way to combat coronavirus, health workers are also tired of fighting the latter.
If the house-to-house campaign for “Sabayang Patak Kontra Polio” is not possible, the CHO is considering putting a modified fixed post, a health facility where those who want to get vaccinated can avail.
As the third-round of SPKP continues, Vego expects that the City of Koronadal will still achieve its target beneficiaries just like in the first and second rounds which is at 96 and 98 percent, respectively.
The third-round of “Sabayang Patak Kontra Polio” was first scheduled on March 23 to April 4, 2020, in all regions of Mindanao and the National Capital Region (NCR), however, the DOH suspended it amid covid-19 aggression that pushed President Rodrigo Duterte declared a state of calamity throughout the country and imposed Enhance Community Quarantine (ECQ).
As the ECQ lifted and the country is now in its new normal life, DOH order to resume the said program to ensure that no child is left unvaccinated.
