BEP evaluators set to discuss recommendations to the 27 barangays
The 2020 Barangay Empowerment Program (BEP) evaluators will convene the 27 barangays. This was agreed by the evaluators in both rural and urban categories after the thorough discussion of various recommendations and suggestions raised during the post-evaluation deliberation.
Koronadal City Mayor Eliordo Ogena is supporting the action by offering the group the same initiative. He said it is important for every barangay to know their weaknesses in the areas covered in the program so that they can improve it in the final evaluation. Also, the Mayor said they should know their strengths to avoid complacency and for them to strive more.
Meanwhile, evaluators want all barangays to be ready and competitive in the final assessment, which begins in November.
The evaluators in both categories consisted of different offices headed by City Local Government Operations Officer (CLGOO) and BEP Evaluation Committee Chairperson Jennifer Fernandez and City Planning Development Officer and BEP Head Secretariat Engr. Agnes Daguro together with the representative of Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) and the Business sector.
Meanwhile, during barangay evaluation, some common findings raised during the ex-post evaluation include:
Undocumented activities
Outdated barangay development plan and barangay solid waste management program
Failure to adopt Ordinance No. 5, series of 2016 or known as prohibiting the use of a plastic
bag or any containers made of polystyrene (Styrofoam)
No record of compost, waste collection, Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) and Memorandum of
Understanding (MOU) to civil society

No budget being allocated to Barangay Solid Waste Management Committee (BSWMC)
Waste reduction initiative not recorded
Practicing community mobilization with no record
Income generated from the waste collection was not recorded
Not efficient beautification

In addition to the top prizes, the mayor also proposed possible special and minor prizes and a corresponding amount of consolation for each barangay category. The following implies for a special award with a prize money of PHP 100,000.
Best in solid waste management barangay
The most lighted barangay, and
Best roadsides barangay
Meanwhile, the following minor awards will be given, with a prize money of PHP 50,000.

Most viable and replicable community-based best practice
Best barangay plaza
Best barangay garden and nursery
Best community garden and nursery
Best material recovery facility and composting facility
A consolation prize of Php10,000 will also be granted to the barangay with the best home garden.
The Barangay Empowerment Program (BEP) aims to achieve a clean, green, and beautifully landscaped city. The Mayor also envisions to make Koronadal the destination of choice for environmental research and studies.
