KATROPA : shaping men to strengthen families
If only one can specialize in school to improve parenting skills, fathers and future dads will probably take advantage of the opportunity.
A dysfunctional family is the result of poor parenting and the KAlalakihang Tapat sa Responsibilidad at Obligasyon sa PAmilya (KATROPA) helps shape men on their role to strengthen the foundation and helps save families.
To mobilize men as partners in women’s empowerment and gender equality, the City Population Office (please refer to right abbreviation if there’s any) oversees the barangays with organized KATROPA by arranging new member orientations when needed.
On three separate occasions, the barangays of Paraiso, New Pangasinan at Zone 1 welcomed the arrival of new Katropa members and sought guidance from City PopCom. Meanwhile, an in-house KATROPA for city government employees will be organized in September.
The City PopCom underscored the importance of revisiting the culturally shaped mindset of the heads of household as ‘macho’ and realigning them to a more conscientious and dynamic participant in the development of their respective families.
KATROPA as a program seeks to support men by providing them information on important and relevant parenting topics to include; Me as a Man, Me as a Father, Strengthening Marital Relationship, MNCHN/ Family Planning and Protecting My Partner from Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
Also, to increase the men’s involvement in responsible parenthood and family planning, the City PopCom strategized activities to include; congress, reorganizational meetings, and seminars to the 27 barangays since year 2017. They also focused on the long-term programs for sustainable development.
Under this program, KATROPA members are expected to live-up to the values of what they have learned – making them realize the importance of their position in molding the future and well-being of their families.
