LGU Koronadal organizes Barangay Information Officers’ group
The City Information Office (CIO) extended its initiative by formally organizing Barangay Information Officers (BIOs) into a group to intensify and hasten the flow of information from the local government to the grassroots level.
City Information Officer Romar Olivares stressed that it’s time the city enjoins the participation of its barangays in all aspects of governance and development, including Information, Education and Communication (IEC) for the successful creation of the Barangay Development Information Center (BDIC).
“Sa karon, whether we like it or not, amo na ni kakusog ang effect kag impact sang social media… Handa kami magbulig sa inyo nga mga barangay, kay gusto namon i-decentralize ang mga impormasyon nga mag link ang CIO sa barangay para sa information dissemination. Tani ma-strengthen pa ang aton collaboration. Maipakalat ang mga ordinances o programa sa mga barangay,” Olivares said.
The goal of the local government is to establish a network of BIOs that will consistently assist in its information dissemination efforts to ensure the efficient and prompt delivery of the programs and services of the current administration are communicated to all Koronadaleños.
In his message, City Mayor Eliordo U. Ogena acknowledged the importance of having a strong network of communicators in the barangay level that will help counteract the spread of unverified information.
With the inclusion of the BIOs in this goal, the mayor said that “mas dali ipaabot sa Koronadal ang mga balita sa barangay kag para makakuha involvement and participation sa katawhan.”
The City Information Office piloted the creation of barangay-based communication officers’ group serving as one of the government’s arm in disseminating government programs.
