Koronadal receives new biodegradable waste facility from DA
To add appropriate technologies that will help manage waste resources in the city, the Department of Agriculture- Bureau of Soils and Water Management has turned over a composting facility for biodegradables.
One unit shredding machine and one unit rotary composter were received and to be operated at the Sanitary Landfill located at Brgy. Paraiso, Koronadal City. The said machines can accommodate biodegradable waste up to 1 ton per hour.
These machines are expected to reduce the amount of biodegradable waste in landfill by 60%. The processed biodegradable waste is good as food for vermicasts, from which a high-grade fertilizer can be obtained after conversion to its final form.
The DA started this composting facility project in 2015, with the goal to spread this Filipino-made technology in all parts of the country. Leolito Siase- Senior Agriculturist, Remote Sensing Technologist Armando B. Arcamo, and Project Assistants Troy Paolo Espiel and Rae Michael Barbosa personally delivered these machines all the way from Quezon City.
City Mayor Eliordo U. Ogena and City ENRO Officer Augustus L. Bretaña, EnP welcomes the newest addition to the city’s growing recycling facility and is looking forward to rolling out the perspective plans to improve the sanitary landfill facilities in 2-3 years.
