Don’t wait for the surge, let’s fight COVID-Vego
“Don’t wait for the surge, let’s cooperate to fight against COVID-19”, the flinty call of City Health Officer (CHO) Dr. Edito Vego in line with the current situation of General Santos City wherein hospitals are in full capacity. He also said that the said condition would bring a domino effect to the City of Koronadal.
As indicated by Vego, the absence of hospital beds in Gensan has actually flagged the beginning of the surge in the event that it isn’t be managed immediately, something that he does not want to happen in the City of Koronadal.
Aside from cooperation, having self-discipline is a constant appeal of Dr. Vego because the escalation of COVID-19 cases can also be attributed to the movement of people. He further explained that the people must not wait for the case to roll up because the medical front-liners can no longer stand for it.
Fort the meantime, as part of the city’s preparation for the possible COVID-19 proliferation, the local government opened a larger isolation facility in Marbel 1 Elementary School which can accommodate 105 beds.
It also aims to bring together in one facility all those who have tested positive for the virus to include those in home, hotel and pension houses isolation in order to focus on monitoring the heath of patients and saving financial and health personnel which can only be done if they are in one facility. Dr. Vego said that it is also a way to contain those entire COVID-19 positive to prevent persistent infections that lead to an increase in cases.
The city health officer also called on the entire community not to ignore simple symptoms such as cough, cold, flu, or any illnesses related to COVID-19. Such situation should be reported to the Barangay Health Response Team (BHERTs) and City Health Office so that swab testing can be done immediately, although massive testing cannot be performed this time due to tight budgets.
