PSA XII opens PhilSys registration center in Koronadal

June 11, 2021

The City Government of Koronadal stands ready to support the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) XII to help residents and non-residents obtain a national ID as the latter officially launches its Fixed Registration Center (FRC) at JYSL Building, Brgy. Zone II on Monday, June 7.

To begin the Step 2 process in SOCCCSKSARGEN, the ‘registration proper’ of the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) involves the validation and biometric capture of the registrants’ fingerprints, photographs, and iris scan who have completed Step 1 or who have already had their demographics taken.

Those who have completed the first step will receive a text message with the schedule of their visit to the registration center. The third step will be the issuance of their IDs with PhilSys numbers, which will be delivered to the registrants’ homes by a courier service.

PSA XII Regional Director, Atty. Maqtahar Manulon said that they aim to capture biometric data from at least 225 clients per day.

Of the 4.5 million population of Region 12, more than 1.3 million have registered in Step 1.

In his message, City Mayor Eliordo U. Ogena expressed his joy and gratitude to the said office after establishing its center in Koronadal, making it easier for Koronadaleños to take advantage of such an opportunity how data are significant for the local government in its decision making.

“Bilang opisyales ng Koronadal, kailangan namin ito in making a decision. Kahit maliit lang ang lugar na Koronadal, makakatulong ito sa kung papaano ang pag allocate natin ng pera, ang mga magpapabakuna, ano o sino ang dapat i-prioritize,” the Mayor said.

The national ID can be used as proof of identification for all government transactions. However, PSA clarified that PhilID will not replace other existing functional IDs such as passport or driver’s license.

Furthermore, they clarified that said ID is not just another identity card, as it aims to streamline the government’s delivery of services by simplifying public and private transactions and making social services more accessible to Filipinos.

It will also boost efficiency, particularly when dealing with government services where people will only need to present one ID during transactions.

Signed into law by President Rodrigo R. Duterte in August 2018, Republic Act 11055, or the Philippine Identification System Act, seeks to create a single official identification card for all Filipinos and resident aliens that integrates and interconnects various government-issued IDs.

The center caters for the city residents and other nearby municipalities of South Cotabato from Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

To register for a national ID, simply login to register.philsys.gov.ph, fill out the form, enter their personal information, and schedule an appointment for biometrics registration.
