Recently, the Sanguniang Panlungsod of the City of Koronadal passed and approved an Ordinance known as the “Barangay Health Workers’ Code of the City of Koronadal”.

Pingoy, Chairperson on Committee on Health, the said ordinance is geared to strengthen and empower the Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) by providing them continuous education, training, as well as benefits and incentives to make them more efficient in the delivery of health care services. This covers all registered and accredited BHWs within the 27 barangays.

An applicant shall be a bonafide resident from within the barangay.
The Punong Barangay shall approve the application and appoint qualified applicants and recommend them for voluntary primary health care services training for a period of one (1) year making the worker eligible to apply to the Local Health Board for registration.
In recognition of their services, starting from the date of their accreditation. BHWs who are actively and regularly performing their duties shall be entitled to the following benefits; (a) monthly honorarium of Php3,000.00 and an annual increase of Php500.00 until the maximum of Php5,000.00 is reached; (b) Hazard allowance to be determined by the board; (c) Subsistence allowance; (d) Training Education and Career Enrichment Programs; (e) Civil Service Eligibility- a second grade eligibility shall be granted after a 5-year continuous service as such; (f) Free Legal Services; (g) medical assistance; (h) Loyalty incentive under Ordinance No. 21, s. 2019 Otherwise known as the “Volunteer Workers’ Loyalty Incentives”; (i) medical assistance of not less than Php5,000.00; (j) Accident Insurance; and (k) Death benefit of not less that Php5,000.00.
