Who will be the next Outstanding BNS in the city?
Who do you think will be the city’s next Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar (BNS) in 2021? This question will be answered following the evaluation, which is currently being conducted by the City Nutrition Office.
City Nutrition Action Officer (CNAO) Nancy Adalin explained that the search for Outstanding BNS was set earlier than the actual schedule due to the conflict with other activities that their office needs to attend to.
She went on to say that out of 58 BNS, their office chose only the top seven (7) barangays for the final assessment, in which their previous year’s documented accomplishments were rated. These are Barangay Topland, Concepcion, Carpenter Hill, Sto. Niño, Avanceña, San Isidro and Zone I.
Aside from City Nutrition Office (CNO), there are some other agencies that take part in the evaluator’s team for the final scrutiny, to include the City Department of Interior and Local Government (CDILG), City Health Office (CHO) and City Agriculture Office (CAgri) represented by its respective assigned personnel.
Meanwhile, Adalin stated that the selection of top barangays is according to the pre-evaluation conducted from February to April this year using the Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation (MELLPI) Pro. It is a monitoring tool and evaluation mechanism of the national government for the implementation of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) at the local level.
The said instrument is composed of seven (7) elements that are considered major tasks of the BNS that comprises of the following:
- coordination
- planning
- advocacy and promotion
- resource generation
- implementation
- evaluation
- documentation and reports
The evaluation, on the other hand, is set to conclude on June 6, with the results expected to be released a week after the run-through and will be officially announced during the city’s nutrition month celebration in July.
The city’s declared outstanding BNS 2021 will be the representative at the provincial level for a similar activity to be held in August. Furthermore, not only BNS will be considered in the nutrition evaluation because the nutrition office will also undergo valuation on June 30, to be led by the Provincial Nutrition Council (PNC).
