City’s BNS eyeing spot in region’s Search for Most Outstanding BNS
Although the result of the evaluation for the Search for Most Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) of Region XII is yet to release, the City of Koronadal’s BNS is eyeing a possible spot in the said competition following the invitation of the Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team (RNET) to attend this year’s regional awarding ceremony.
The RNET composed of different agencies coming from regional offices headed by National Nutrition Council (NNC) coordinators Leah Utlang, Dannah Pearl Aurel and Ruby Laurito invited BNS Melani P. Azuelo of Barangay Concepcion after she marked 83% in one (1) area alone specifically in the Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation (MELLPI) or in documentation aspect who has also earned the highest score among all the evaluated participants. MELLPI is one (1) of the three (3) areas evaluated by the assessors with the largest percentage.
Azuelo was rated in three (3) categories with a total of 100% that include:
►MELLPI – 70%
►Written Exam – 20%
► Interview – 10%
Prior to the assessment, Utlang said that in order to get an award at the regional level a participant must obtain an overall score of 90%. She also made clear that the purpose of the valuation is not to look for partaker’s mistakes instead to coach them what should be done to properly implement the government’s nutrition programs. “Hindi tayo nagsagawa ng evaluation upang maghanap ng mga mali ng kalahok ngunit upang turuan ng mga dapat gawin upang maipatupad ng tama at maayos ang programang pangnutrisyon ng gobyerno.” Utlang said during the conduct of the said activity.
Brgy. Captain Mema Joquiño, on the other hand, expressed how grateful and excited she is since this is the first time that her BNS represents not only Brgy. Concepcion but the entire city as well. For her, the prize in the region is just a bonus because the best award is the honor of being a city’s delegate. “Bonus nalang ang award sa region kag proud and happy ako kay para sa akon ang pinaka the best nga award is ang honor,” Joquiño said as the barangay council showed full support to the nominee.
Aside from Azuelo, City Nutrition Action Officer (CNAO) Nancy A. Adalin of City Nutrition Office (CNO) went through a similar assessment but in only two (2) classifications such as documentation and interview.
As being inexperienced in the said position with the shortest period of service and the first time to be evaluated as a nutrition officer, Adalin admitted that her preparation for the document’s compilation was not enough. “56 months palang akong CNAO at may pinakamaikling serbisyo at ako rin ang first CNAO na na-evaluate, hindi ako ganon ka handa dahil madaming kulang na documents,” Adalin explained with a mixture of worry of the possible outcome of the evaluation.
Nonetheless, despite all apprehensions, Adalin received positive feedback from the evaluators. Meanwhile, the CNO is currently preparing for the same evaluation for the nutrition program of the city government to be conducted very soon.
