Ordinance granting cash incentive to BHWs, BNSs and DCWs gets a nod from SP
To recognize their vital role as partners of the city government in the delivery of basic health, nutrition, and educational services, the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Koronadal has unanimously approved an ordinance that provides annual cash incentives to the Barangay Health Workers (BHWs), Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs), and Day Care Workers (DCWs) during the recent SP Regular session.
The said ordinance, authored by Councilor Ellen Grace Subere-Albios, is entitled “An Ordinance Granting Annual Cash Incentive every 1st Week of December to Barangay Health Workers, Barangay Nutrition Scholars, and Day Care Workers in the City of Koronadal and Providing Funds Therefor”.
A total of Three Hundred Twenty-Five (325) beneficiaries, which include one hundred sixty-eight (168) BHWs, fifty-two (52) BNSs, and one hundred five (105) DCWs, are eligible for the Three Thousand Pesos (P3,000.00) annual cash incentive. However, they shall be duly accredited and are already receiving a monthly honorarium from the city government. Further, the recipients, whose names appear in the master list, are entitled to receive such a grant, provided, they are in the updated yearly registry of the city.
According to Councilor Albios, they deserve such an incentive to feel appreciated for their sacrifices and dedication to work, as well as to motivate them to maintain quality services and further improve their performances and services.
“It is part of the ordinance that it will be given on the first week of December, and we don’t have to wait for the last week of December to give this. We will institutionalize our support for the general welfare of our constituents when we love those people serving in volunteerism”, Councilor Albios said.
It is highlighted under the ordinance that their social well-being and welfare will be promoted and improved as they are considered frontliners at the grassroot level who are taking the lead to introduce and offer various health, nutrition, and educational services to the people of the City of Koronadal.
Meanwhile, City Mayor Eliordo U. Ogena noted that the BHWs, BNSs, and DCWs have a crucial role to play in accomplishing the primary health care of the barangay towards health and educational empowerment.
In an interview, Norma Brillo, a BNS of Barangay Caloocan, expressed gratitude to the local government for continuously recognizing their efforts and for giving them the support they need.
“Para sa amon nga mga BNS daku gid ang amon pasalamat kay mahatagan man kami. Daku na ina para sa amon ang incentive nga ina nga mabaton sa December. Nagapasalamat gid kami sa pamunuan sang aton pinalangga nga Mayor kag Councilor Subere-Albios nga nagpanikasog gid sina nga mahatagan man kami sang incentive!”, Brillo stated.
(For us BNS, we are grateful for this. The incentive that we will receive in December is such a big deal for us. Because of this, we would like to thank our City Mayor and Councilor Subere-Albios for such an initiative so we can be able to receive this incentive.)
