Additional Solar Street Lights, product of Good Local Governance
The city government of Koronadal ensures excellency in delivering services to its constituents. As a testament to its commitment to provide quality public service, the local government unit became a national finalist to the 2023 Seal of Good Local Governance, a prestigious award given to LGUs who have exhibited exemplary performance in every core area of public service. As a fruit of the sweat of every government worker, the LGU became a recipient of the incentive fund awarded to every SGLG national finalist. A fund that will be utilized in the realization of one of the city’s goals, illuminating the city. As a visionary to a highly competitive and organized local government unit pays a high regard in providing light not only in the four core zones but also to all twenty-seven (27) barangays within its jurisdiction. Illumination plays a vital role in the success of a community. It does not only add elegance of the night life but also strengthens public safety and security.
In lieu with this, the city government through the initiative of Barangay Development Program (BDP) continues in installing solar street lights among the identified strategic locations in the city. Last April 12, 2024, the city government through the Special Projects Unit (SPU) and BDP conducted a groundbreaking ceremony of the installation thirty-two (32) solar street lights along Alunan Avenue from the Public Market going to Barangay General Paulino Santos (GPS). During the ceremony, among the attendees were City Mayor Atty. Eliordo U. Ogena, City Councilors Mark C. Lapidez and John Rey P. Rodriguez, Department of Interior and Local Government South Cotabato Provincial Director Hayd-Ali M. Suwaib, some of the department heads and city government employees.
According to SPU head Ms. Beverlyn Pacinabao, the installation of the said solar street lights has a budget allocation amounting to Php 2,300,000 from the Seal of Good Local Government (SGLG) Incentive fund given by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) to LGUs who have achieved excellence in core areas of public service.
“32 ka solar street lights ang itukod. Halin didto sa United Radio harap-harapan asta didto sa Barrio 1. Ang ini nga pondo halin sa SGLG incentive fund and happy kita because according sa aton nga DILG the awardees are considered among the best in local governance and out of 148 cities sa bilog nga Pilipinas, 64 lang po ang na awardan.” says Ms. Pacinabao.
Koronadal City Mayor Atty. Eliordo U. Ogena in his message extended his gratitude to the people behind this milestone including the department heads, rank in file workers and the people of Koronadal. Mayor Ogena also manifested his intent to continue in shedding light in all corners of the city by continuing the installation of solar street lights
“32 na ilaw lang ang covered nito. Pero ang plano natin is pasanagon ang apat ka sona, ang barrio uno, ang santa cruz, ang mga urban center, morales kag tanan nga 27 ka barangay pero unahon naton ang sentro. Pasanagon naton ni because we will be putting up a night market dito.” says Mayor Ogena.
