Government’s support to local farmer continues
The City Government of Koronadal through the City Agriculture Office (CAgriO) continues its support to the accredited rice farmers in its locality. This is through financial assistance and other livelihood programs including pieces of training and workshops in partnership with the Department of Agriculture (DA) Region XII. Just recently, the said office distributed ₱5,000 in monetary support to 1,054 identified beneficiaries of 27 barangays which was funded by DA’s Rice Farmers Financial Assistance (RFFA).
Aside from the aforementioned financial assistance, City Agri also provided fertilizer vouchers to 785 farmers in the city. Each vouchers range from the amount of ₱3,400 to ₱5,100 depending on the measurement of the rice field that the beneficiary is cultivating.
Among the attendees during the disbursement activities were City Mayor Atty. Eliordo U. Ogena, City Councilors Ma. Ester M. Catorce, Bernardo Hinay, John Rey P. Rodriguez, Community Affairs Officer Rey B. Abela, and the staff from the City Agriculture’s Office headed by Acting City Agriculturist Engr. Reynold Biñas.
In their speeches, the officials emphasized the important role of rice farmers in the progress of the city. They said, that as the city’s economy remains parachuting, the local government will also make sure that the support to the agriculture sector continues so that farmers will not only survive but will also thrive.
