Construction of City of Koronadal Supermarket Complex buildings now completed

February 3, 2025

Eight years after the nightmarish fire ignited and burned the structures of the old public market of the City of Koronadal, a new beacon of hope is erected to further improve the lives of the vendors and the consumers of the newly-constructed public market now called City of Koronadal Central Supermarket Complex. With a budget allocation of 300 million pesos, the construction of the two three-story buildings of the supermarket complex commenced on the 23rd of August 2023. Despite some untoward incidents that caused inevitable delays, the contractor L.H.E Construction formally turned over the completed project to the City Government of Koronadal last 31st of January 2025.

Among the attendees during the blessing and turnover ceremony are the government officials of the City Government of Koronadal headed by City Mayor Atty. Eliordo U. Ogena together with Vice Mayor Erlinda P. Araquil and the members of the Sanggunian, South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr. duly represented by Mr. Tyron John Villanueva, and dignitaries from different institution who wished to witness another milestone in the city’s economic revolution.

According to City Architect Marvin Alegria, these buildings are equipped with sophisticated structural and architectural designs, complete wiring and plumbing systems and modern elevators in buildings I and II as well as in the wet market area. These features are set to cater approximately around 120 vendors who were displaced after the 2017 fire incident.

To further transform the supermarket into a modern economic enterprise, the city government is still pushing for the construction of a 250 million pesos multi-level parking area. The mentioned budget will also fund other features such as fire prevention facility and the bridge that will connect the parking area to the other supermarket complex buildings.

Mayor Ogena in his message extended his appreciation to the people who worked tirelessly from the planning stage to the turnover and maintenance of the facilities. Along with this gratitude is the challenge to further develop the market enterprise so that the vendors will not only survive but will also thrive.
