Sustainable Livelihood Program, aiming to alleviate peoples’ lives

In the attempt to further elevate the economic status of its constituents, the City Government of Koronadal through the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSDWO) continues to strengthen its partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD XII) in the implementation of the programs that aim to empowering the masses in the fight against poverty. Amongst these initiatives is the implementation of the Social Pension Program (SLP) with 334 beneficiaries from all over 27 barangays in the city.
Unlike any other governmental aids, SLP is not only intended to give financial assistance to its beneficiaries, but to improve their socio-economic status through capacity building, skills training, and access to employment through microenterprise. Last April 25, 2025, the CSWDO along with DSWD XII and its partner agencies conducted a capacity building workshop held at the City Hall lobby that helped capacitate the beneficiaries on the basics of sustainable livelihood and microenterprise. The speakers walked the beneficiaries through the basic steps in starting a business including the accomplishment of all the necessary paper works required by different government offices.
According to Mr. Leonard C. Llondres, CSWDO SLP focal person, it is through the initiative of their office that the national government granted a total of 5 million pesos in addition to the 2025 budget allocation for SLP. Last April 28, 2025, in a pay-out still conducted at the city hall lobby, each of the beneficiaries received ₱15,000 to fuel each of their proposed business. The CSWDO and DSWD XII as partner implementing agencies will then continue monitoring the beneficiaries until the time that they will reach the “self-sufficient level” and graduate from the program.
