Selected associations receive livestock in animal dispersal program
The local government of Koronadal continues to deliver livelihood assistance to low-income earners and aid them in coping with financial difficulties.
On Thursday, City Mayor Eliordo U. Ogena led the distribution of 400 ducks and 144 goats to selected association-beneficiaries in the city.
The program is a COVID-19 livelihood mitigation solution, according to City Veterinarian Dr. Charlemagne Calo, and it provides livestock raisers with an income-generating opportunity during the crisis.
Eight (8) associations received 50 ducks apiece, while six (6) goats per group were dispersed to the other 24 associations along with electrolytes, deworming medications and vitamins.
Mayor Ogena also asked the recipients to take good care of the farm animals so that they can get the most out of them and, in turn, help them raise more animals.
“Paramihin muna talaga para sigurado na may pagkain at dagdag pagkakakitaan ngayong hindi pa tapos ang pandemya,” Ogena said Thursday.
Furthermore, the chief executive wishes to expand the Demo Farm in Barangay General Paulino Santos (GPS) in order to utilize the area where farm animals will be housed and the local government will distribute the animals to its possible beneficiaries.
In addition, City Veterinarian Calo stated that, in addition to ducks and goats, chicks will be distributed in the coming weeks, expanding the program’s scope.
The recently conducted activity is a joint program of the City Veterinary and Community Affairs Offices.
