Additional infrastructures; City Government’s support to education sector

The city government of Koronadal ensures its relentless support to the education sector in the city. This mission is manifested through initiatives such as financial aid to students through different platforms such as the Iskolar ng Koronadal-Kabugwason Paglaum Scholarship Program (ISKO-KPP) and Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES), provision of educational materials to students from kindergarten to senior high school prior to the opening of classes and most importantly, simultaneous construction of educational facilities all over the 27 barangays in the city.

Recently, the city government through the initiative of the Barangay Development Program (BDP) turned over two (2) educational facilities for the benefit of the students in Barangay Saravia. The first facility, a gymnasium was constructed at Mangga Elementary School at Brgy. Saravia has a total budget allocation of ₱3,500,000 from the Special Education Fund (SEF) approved by the local school board. Another facility that was turned over is the stage at Marbel 8 Elementary School with a total budget allocation of ₱500,000.

The turnover ceremony was spearheaded by City Mayor Atty. Eliordo U. Ogena along with Committee on Education Chairperson Councilor Ma. Ester Marin-Catorce, Committee on Infrastructure Chairperson Councilor John Rey P. Rodriguez, Koronadal City School’s Division Superintendent Roberto Montero, barangay officials of Brgy. Saravia as well as the teachers and pupils of the said respective educational institutions.

In his message, Mayor Ogena emphasized the importance of recognizing the role of education that plays vital in the development of the city. The official also lauded the unwavering perseverance of the teachers in honing the students into fine individuals. Aside from the above-mentioned projects, Mayor Ogena also revealed the plans of the city to provide laptops and modern televisions to public schools in the city.

“Alam ko ang kinabukasan ng lungsod na ito ang kinabukasan ng bansa ay nakasalalay sa mga batang ito at sa mga guro na nagtuturo sa kanila…” says Mayor Ogena.
