City of Koronadal bags this year’s SGLG Award
The City of Koronadal continues its streak of excellence in local governance. For two consecutive years, the city has been awarded the prestigious Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG), joining the other 714 Local Government Units (LGUs) recognized for the outstanding performance during the awarding ceremony held on December 9, 2024, at The Manila Hotel.
The significant achievement placed Koronadal among the top 96 cities nationwide recognized by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG). With the award, the city is entitled to the SGLG Incentive Fund of Two Million Pesos to further develop its programs in delivering sustainable growth for its residents.
City Mayor Eliordo U. Ogena, joined by City Local Government Operations Officer Jennifer Fernandez and the city’s First Lady Cristy Ogena, took the center stage to proudly accept the SGLG marker.
This year’s assessment was notably rigorous as it has incorporated enhanced outcome-based criteria that meet the demands of public accountability and reform.
The city’s success is a testament to its comprehensive approach to local governance, excelling in the following areas: financial administration and sustainability; disaster preparedness; social protection and sensitivity; health compliance and responsiveness; sustainable education; business friendliness and competitiveness; safety, peace and order; environmental management; tourism; heritage development; culture and arts; and youth development.
In a recent radio interview, Mayor Ogena humbly attributed the city’s back-to-back SGLG wins not to his own efforts but to the dedicated and hardworking team in the city government. He emphasized the collaborative spirit of the department heads and employees, highlighting their crucial role in achieving the remarkable success and its positive impact on the community.
“Indi ko ginakabig nga akon lang ini, (This award doesn’t belong to me alone), I [simply] provided the necessary leadership to acquire these back-to-back, two straight wins.” Mayor Ogena said.
Looking ahead, Mayor Ogena expressed his commitment to continuing the city’s progress; a commitment which underscores the city government’s dedication to sustainable and impactful governance.
“I hope that this will become a habit and a culture for us to work even harder so that we can, you know, transform this city for good,” Ogena added.
