April 14, 2025

Upholding the welfare of the local farmers continues to sit on top of the priorities of the City Government of Koronadal. Aiming to transform the city’s agribusiness into a top economic enterprise and revenue contributor, the City Agriculture’s Office is dedicated to  investing not only on the  needs of the local farmers but also in finding ways for them to adopt to the inevitable evolution of  the mechanisms in the agriculture industry.  Among the ways in coping to the demands in farming is the farm mechanization.

Farm mechanization involves the use of modern sophisticated farm machineries designed to improve efficiency, reduce labor and help farmers in lowering the cost of land preparation which usually ranges from ten to fifteen thousand pesos per hectare. In 2024, a total of ₱13,708,000 from the Department of Agriculture (DA) in partnership with the City Agri, fueled the purchase of five (5) harvesters, two (2) units of four wheel drive tractor, 2 units of hand tractors and 3 units of floating tillers.

In the first quarter of 2025, City Agri has allocated a total of ₱5,000,000 from the Local Development Fund (LDF) for the procurement of two (2) additional powered tractors and one (1) transplanter to be distributed to different farmers’ associations in the city.  This was confirmed by City Mayor Atty. Eliordo U. Ogena in front of more than one thousand rice farmers during the distribution of palay seeds that took place last March 19, 2025 at the city Demo Farm.

“Mabakal kita sang duha kabilog nga traktora kag isa ka transplanter. Amo ini ang intervention naton para malower ang land preparation ninyo. Kabay pa nga makatabang ini kag mabatyagan ninyo nga ang City Government wala naga pabaya sa inyo…”, says Mayor Ogena.

The good mayor also informed the farmers that the City Government will provide financial aid to farmers in case the per kilo price of palay drops during the harvest season.
