Koronadal is No. 4 most resilient City in PH

December 16, 2021

The City of Koronadal emerged as the No. 4 “Most Resilient Component City” in the Philippines.

Based on the four (4) pillars for determining the overall competitiveness of an LGU, the City of Koronadal was named one of the “Most Resilient Cities” in the country during the Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI) 9th Regional Competitiveness Summit held on December 14, 2021.

Landed as the fourth, the City of Koronadal was also awarded by the CMCI as the second most resilient city in the country in 2019. Among the top list are the cities of Naga of Camarines Sur at 3rd, Tagum of Davao Del Norte at 2nd and Calapan of Oriental Mindoro as the country’s Most Resilient Component City.

Through the Regional Competitiveness Committees of the National Competitiveness Council, Local Government Units (LGUs) all over the country were ranked based on DTI’s CMCI, which is the sum of four pillars: economic dynamism, government efficiency, infrastructure and resiliency.

According to the CMCI, resiliency is the capacity of a place to facilitate businesses and industries to create jobs, increase productivity and increase the incomes of citizens over time despite the set-back and constraints it encounters.

Other than Koronadal, no other LGUs from the Province of South Cotabato were named in the Top 10 for a CMCI pillar in this year’s award. However, Polomolok has been recognized as the ninth (9th) Most Competitive Municipality among the 1st and 2nd class municipalities. South Cotabato has been ranked as the sixth (6th) Most Competitive Province in the country.

The CMCI is an annual ranking of the most competitive LGUs in the country under the Department of Trade and Industry. Also, this award assessed the role of local governments in ensuring a competitive environment for businesses to secure their profits, create jobs and increase the productivity of their employees.
