DHSUD XII new admin building soon to rise in Koronadal

April 4, 2022

Following the project unveiling and ceremonial groundbreaking, the new administration building of the Department of Human Settlement and Urban Development (DHSUD) Region XII will soon rise in the City of Koronadal.

The area measuring exactly 1,050sqm is located at the back of the city hall where the structure is expected to be completed within one (1) year from the start of its construction. The project became possible after the Sangguniang Panlungsod unanimously approved Resolution No. 41 series of 2021 authorizing City Mayor Eliordo Ogena to enter into and sign a usufruct agreement with the DHSUD.

DHSUD XII Assistant Regional Director Engr. Gifaril Cabalquinto presented the salient points of the content of the deal which includes allowing the said office to use the portion of the land owned by the City of Koronadal as the site of their new regional administrative building for 50 years from the original arrangement of 25 years. She also emphasized that the generosity of the city government has not ended in using only the area within the said term but the local government also agreed in the probation that after the termination of their initial term the usufruct agreement may be renewed for another 50 years or likely a total of 100 years use of the space.

DHSUD XII is allowed to use the area for 50 years through the sponsorship of the Committee on Housing and Land Use chaired by City Councilor Edwin Abris.

Meanwhile, in addition to his heartfelt appreciation to the LGU Koronadal for the warm welcome, DHSUD Sec. Eduardo Del Rosario assured that their bureau will continue to be a partner in the housing program. He also stated that their office is prepared to provide housing assistance so that the poorest among the poor can benefit from the national administration’s project in direct collaboration with local government units.

DHSUD Regional Director Jennifer Bretaña, on the other hand, emphasized that achieving the mission of providing decent housing for homeless Filipino families, cannot be accomplished solely by DHSUD but it needs governance that involves a partnership with the government, private and business sectors and stable society organizations.

Mayor Ogena welcomed the said institution, believing it to be another landmark building in the city, demonstrating a strong partnership. He is also grateful because, despite the pandemic, there were still many infrastructure projects underway, and the Koronadal’s goals were not jeopardized.

Meanwhile, DHSUD not only receives favorable treatment from LGU Koronadal, but the city in return also receives Php20, 000,000.00 in assistance from them for the development of the city’s housing project.

The support is in accordance with their mandate as the sole and main planning and policy-making, regulatory, program coordination, and performance monitoring entity for all housing, human settlement and urban development concerns, primarily focusing on the access to and the affordability of basic human needs.
