Koronadal attains No. 1 spot in Gawad Edukampyon Awards

Garnering a total percentage of 97.50, the City of Koronadal got the no. 1 spot in Gawad Edukampyon award for Capacity Development- Component City category during the Gawad Edukampyon for Local Governance Awarding Ceremony held on June 3, at Novotel Manila in Quezon City.

The Gawad Edukampyon is an opportunity to recognize the meritorious performance of Local Chief Executives and their respective Local Government Units in the current pandemic through local initiatives and meaningful programs in education.

During the pandemic, through the leadership of City Mayor Atty. Eliordo Ogena, the local chief executive implemented the following programs and projects such as Sama-samang Iangat ang Kakayahan at Adhikaing Dakila (S.I.K.A.D) Edukalidad Program, the distribution of 1,475 printers, 25 photocopying machines and various school supplies. Also the android tablets for the public highschool students and 150 tablets for Non-Teaching Personnel of DepEd Koronadal.

In addition, the LGU-Koronadal allotted 4. 5 million pesos in support for the limited face-to-face classes, and livelihood projects were also provided as well to the identified community in the city with a low literacy level.

Meanwhile, around 1700 employees of the DepEd- Koronadal received additional allowance with amount of 6,000 pesos each with free Health Kits from the city government.

“This is a part of the implementation of Mayor ’Bebot’ to focus on education during the pandemic for them to be able to deliver work and requirements quickly and effectively”, City Focal Person on Education Programs, Jonathan B. Enmanuel said.

There are three (3) Gawad Edukampyon para sa Lokal na Pamahalaan Categories:

  • Capacity Development
  • Local Learning Continuity Innovations
  • Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) Edukampyon Awards

According to Gawad Edukampyon, capacity development or capacity building is the process by which individuals and organizations obtain, improve, and retain the skills, knowledge, tools, equipment, and other resources needed to do their jobs effectively.

Gawad Edukampyon for capability development finalists include:

> Santiago City, Isabela

> Iriga City, Camarines Sur

> Koronadal City, South Cotabato

Other than Koronadal, no other LGUs from the Province of South Cotabato were named in the recent Gawad Edukampyon Awards. However, South Cotabato has been recognized as fifth (5) for ‘ECCD’ in the Provincial Category.

Gawad Edukampyon was officially launched on December 6, 2021 by its five (5) pioneering partners: Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Education (DepEd), Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) Council, Center of Local Governance and Professional Development (CLGPD) and Rex Education.
