City Councilor Pingoy sets to pass three ordinances
Oversight Committee Chairperson City Councilor Annabelle G. Pingoy is set to pass three (3) proposed ordinances, which include a milk bank, the renaming of streets in the City of Koronadal, and the reintroduction of Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) councilors, secretaries, and treasurers’ honorarium, to name a few.
In an interview with Councilor Pingoy on “Tingog sa Pagsanyog,” the City Government of Koronadal’s Facebook (FB) live program, she explained that the establishment of a milk bank is to provide an opportunity to mothers who are unable to breastfeed for various reasons, such as medical conditions. She went on to say that there are mothers who produce an abundance of breast milk that can be shared with needy babies, and this can be accelerated if there is a storage facility for it.
Pingoy said that together with her staff they already had conducted bench marking two (2) years ago in Quezon and Makati Cities regarding the setting up of a milk bank but it was delayed because of lockdown due to the pandemic. “Naka-bench mark na kami sang mga staff ko sa Makati kag Quezon City, pero wala napadayon kay nag-lockdown kag nagpandemic”
Furthermore, as a city, she is considering renaming Koronadal’s streets due to the lack of identity of most of the areas, making many locations difficult to find due to a lack of a proper address. Apart from this, the name of a place should also be consistent with the history of its origin something that should also be researched.
Meanwhile, the official stated that she will revive the proposal of awarding an honorarium to SK who hold positions and provide services to their fellow youth because she believes that the concerned individuals deserve something in return for their generosity. The aforementioned local law was initially approved by the Sangguniang Panlunsod (SP), but it was later disapproved by City Mayor Eliordo Ogena due to a lack of Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) from the Department of Budget and Management (DBM), which Councilor Pingoy has already addressed.
Pingoy is currently serving her third term as a local legislator and has passed 18 ordinances during her first two terms. She also believes that a performer policymaker can pass a significant number of ordinances regardless of committee membership.
Pingoy hopes to leave a legacy in the City of Koronadal as an intentional legislator who makes laws specifically for particular sectors and always has personal involvement in formulating directives at the end of her last term.
Nonetheless, as a result of the political invitation, Pingoy, a simple mother turned politician, recalled being a reluctant candidate when she first entered politics because it was not in the plan. Thus, hesitancy was felt because she is inexperienced, despite the fact that the world of politics is no longer new to her. She decided to accept the challenge after weighing her options and reflecting.
As a public servant, Pingoy finds politics to be a difficult but rewarding job.
