SK Chairman Solas to face off for the region’s 2022 GEMS

October 7, 2022

As a representative of the Province of South Cotabato, Barangay San Jose Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Chairman Carlo S. Solas is set to face off for the 2022 Governance Exemplars for Meaningful Service (GEMS) for SK in Region XII at the end of October.

Following the said competition, Hon. Solas admitted the weight of the contest because other than the criteria being very comprehensive; his opponents are also both well-founded. Thus, he doesn’t want to pressure himself or the youth themselves, instead, they will do their best. “Indi ko i-pressure ang akon self or ang youth, instead we will do our best to package kung ano ang nahimo sang amon barangay, syudad kag sang probinsya, because we cannot make it perfect but we can be an excellent one,” Solas combative statement in preparation for the upcoming race.

“Ang pinakabug-at gid nga kalaban is ang SK sang Calumpang kay siya ang federation president sang Gensan kag ang Alabel kay siya ang defending champion,” Solas said as he acknowledged that his strong contenders are the SK of Brgy. Calumpang who’s currently the SK federation president of General Santos City and the SK of Municipal of Alabel, Sarangani Province who is the defending champion.

Solas stated that beating his fellow SK in 26 barangays was not an easy task but it became even more difficult when he defeated 10 SK municipalities of the Province of South Cotabato which made him represent the province to the region for the said battle. Nonetheless, the SK official believes that his advantage over its competitors is his implementation of the entire Annual Youth Investment Program (AYIP) which is centered on various program areas such as sports, education, health, building security, livelihood, and assessment of activities of different youth organizations, attendance documentation in all activities and on time submission of the report.

Solas is currently a private school teacher who started his political career as SK in 2018 when he just graduated from his Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education (BSED) course which according to him being into politics was precisely accidental because it all started with his friends’ persuasion while he did not get the 100% support of his family.

Though this year’s SK election was postponed, Solas would have been in favor of having an election because apart from the fact that their term of office was extended, he also wants to allow other youngsters to showcase their ability in the management of youth organization.
