LGU Koronadal celebrates National Heritage Month 2023

The local government of Koronadal joins the celebration of the 2023 National Heritage Month (NHM), with its theme Heritage: Change and Continuity or “Pamana: Pagpatuloy at Pagbabago”, which emphasizes the dynamic nature of both heritage and heritage conservation as fields that are constantly evolving and changing.

Led by the City Tourism and Culture and Arts office (CTCAO), the office featured an exceptional show last May 2 at the City Hall Lobby intending to evoke awareness, respect, and love for the country’s cultural history and heritage.

A parade of Filipiñana attire, Kastifun Dad Arat documentary, Flalok – Traditional Storytelling and traditional songs and traditional dances were featured in the show.

“Ang kultura ay napakahalaga sa isang bansa, it has a binding effect to all of us, it contributed to our unity, let’s continue to support our Cultural Heritage, so that it’ll reach the next generations”, City Mayor Atty. Eliordo Ogena expressed his support on the said show.  

Meanwhile, Mayor Ogena urges everyone to consider more carefully what aspects of our culture need to change. “Change is inevitable; we need to adopt change,” he added.

Meanwhile, Mr. Carlo Ebeo, Commissioner for the sub commission on cultural dissemination, National commission for Culture and the arts

(NCCA) joined the celebration, where he thanked the programs and initiatives of the local government in the culture and tourism of the city. He also emphasize the importance of the cultural inventory in creating an integrated picture of the community’s cultural character such as the program of the tourism office, the cultural mapping, where the book was presented to selected Barangay Captains after several months of research to sustain cultural diversity in economic, social, and barangay development.

Along with the celebration, the oath-taking ceremony of the members of the Tourism Council, Culture and Arts Council and Ko’Gon Visual Artist, who will be the government’s partner in the promotion of cultural heritage in the city. These three organizations have tremendous roles to play in keeping communities together, especially in passing on values and traditions to the future generations.

Whilst, the Office of the Indigenous Peoples Mandatory Representative and the  City Tourism and Cultural Office will be conducting a groundbreaking ceremony at the identified area for the first ever School of Living Traditions in City of Koronadal this coming May 23 at Barangay Assumption.

The end goal shares similarities with many other famous ‘Heritage Months’ around the globe — preserving the glorious culture of the nation, raising public awareness, and encouraging people to embrace their Filipino identity.

Present on the said occassion are OIC-Vice Mayor Ellen Grace Subere Albios, Indigenous Person Mandatory Representative (IPMR) and Chairperson on Committee on Tourism Development Antonio Abing, with his Vice Chairperson John Rey Rodriguez, Honorable Eina Jumilla and some Barangay Captains.

By virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 439, s. 2003, the month of May has been annually celebrated as the National Heritage Month.
