Firearms Registration Caravan; Paving the way for a safer Koronadal
The Koronadal City Police Station is committed to ensuring that all firearms in Koronadal City are licensed and accounted for, which they believe will lead to a safer Koronadal.
In line with this, the Koronadal City Police Station held a License to Own and Possess Firearms and Firearms Registration Caravan on November 13 and 14, 2023, at the South Cotabato Gymnasium and Cultural Center. This is to reduce illegal firearms and ammunition possession in Koronadal City. Lieutenant Colonel Amor Mio Somine, Chief of Police of Koronadal City, emphasized the importance of firearms registration in ensuring the safety and security of Koronadal City.
This event was conducted for the benefit of those who have unregistered firearms, expired licenses to carry firearms, and those planning to purchase firearms, as they will no longer need to travel long distances just to register. PL COL Somine encourages those mentioned to join this caravan and to be responsible gun owners.
Anyone who does not participate and continues to own unregistered firearms will be subject to the law. According to the provisions of Republic Act 10591, otherwise known as the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, violators may be prosecuted and sentenced to six to twelve years in prison. However, despite having a license to carry firearms and ammunitions, carrying guns publicly is still regulated. Police Colonel Somine made it clear that the omnibus election gun ban is still effective until November 29, 2023. Hence, in the absence of great necessity, gun owners with license to carry firearms are still highly advised to refrain from bringing their firearms outside of their residence especially in public places.
The Police, the government, and the Koronadaleños work together to keep the peace and order in Koronadal City. “We just finished the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections, as well as the Undas 2023 elections, with no major incidents recorded in the blotter book. The Koronadal City Police Station would like to take this opportunity to ask the public to fully support the programs implemented to maintain public safety and security, particularly during the upcoming holiday season”, PLT COL Somine added.
