Koronadal City promotes growth of women entrepreneurs
To further magnify the importance of women in all aspects of society, City Mayor Eliordo U. Ogena has signed an ordinance that promotes and supports female entrepreneurs’ endeavours in the city.
The “City of Koronadal Women Entrepreneurship Ordinance of 2021” will implement a series of entrepreneurship projects and activities, such as skills and management training, livelihood enhancement, and various women-oriented seminars, along with the necessary support systems and mechanisms for the city’s women entrepreneurs’ sustainable development and promotion.
The author of the said local law, Hon. Marie Antonina I. Hurtado, stated that “the focus of the ordinance is not on the individual giving of livelihood training, but more on the sustainability nangpagkakaroon ng training”.
The ordinance establishes a City of Koronadal Women’s Business Development Council, which will be responsible for carrying out women-oriented programs, projects, activities, and events in business and career-related areas.
The council will be led by the City Council Committee on Women, Children and Family Relations chairman, with Mayor Ogena serving as the honorary chairman and Vice Mayor Peter B. Miguel serving as honorary vice-chairman.
The measure also designates March as the official City of Koronadal Women Entrepreneurs’ Month, coinciding with the city’s Women’s Month celebration. The 8th day of March will also be the inauguration of Koronadal City’s women entrepreneurs’ programs and activities.
During the month-long celebration, a series of women’s business and livelihood seminars will be conducted.
The said ordinance was also co-authored by councillors Annabelle G. Pingoy, Handel Dee Cadellino-Cubilo, Prechie Louella B. Ogoy, Maylene May Bascon-De Guzman, and Clarisse Mae T. Sorongon.
