Meet the Mariveles: Koronadal’s Model Family

Meet the Mariveles, a couple who are spending their retirement helping the community and undeniably three (3) successful children who also serve as role models in their own families and communities.

The couple’s active involvement in the community was finally recognized after being proclaimed Koronadal’s Most Outstanding Model Family for 2021. The family is also the city’s official entry to the “2021 Search for Most Outstanding Model Family” for the Province of South Cotabato along with nine (9) other aspirants.

Felipe, 79, retired provincial health education promotion leader, and Valmie 73, retired teacher, have done more to serve the church and community by actively advocating for health and activities related to the church. Felipe has partnered with the government as a volunteer educator on responsible parenting and other health-related issues. In addition, he volunteers as a speaker to teach drugs, smoking and stress management, as well as to train high school students in sports. On the other hand, his wife Valmie is an active church leader, coordinator and community leader and radio host for church and health-related promotions.

Their son Mark Glenn testified about how their parents are very aggressive in community work. In fact, they have often reminded them to rest, but their willingness to serve others is unstoppable. He also said their parents were perfectly compatible, having a very motivated mother and a very patient father. Further, the second son Mark Phillip, bank manager, testified to the love they have from their parents. His wife Ma.Renee said her mother-in-law helped them strengthen their faith and have a full dependence to the Lord.

“We can really see their passion and dedication. Even here in our barangay, they help inspite of the pandemic. The family support each other”, daughter in-law Sarah Jane Calixton testified in an interview.

According to the youngest daughter Mary Joy Mariveles-Quano, their parents had really invested in their education. Their parents are their role models, infact, currently two of his siblings have their own community extension. Quano also actively helps others through the Couples for Christ ministry.

Regarding their spirituality, Agnes Reyes, co-director of the Secretariat of the Lay Marists, Rome, speaks of the passion and concern of Valmie to offer help and to make people feel that they are with them. According to Reyes, Valmie is a woman who lives with meaning and has a sense of integrity and Filipe is generous in devoting his time to church activities.

Meanwhile, City Mayor Eliordo U. Ogena congratulated the couple as he challenged the Koronadaleño to replicate what they did to the community and their families.

The annual “Search for Most Outstanding Model Family”  hopes to honor and recognize deserving families in the province for their success in promoting family well-being and development by virtue of Ordinance No. 13, Series of 2016. The search winner will be announced in November of this year.
