Koronadal advances in Business – Friendly award final judging

September 27, 2021

The City of Koronadal has once more advanced to the final judging of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry “Most Business – Friendly LGU Awards 2021” following the assessment by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The LGU will present to jurors its important initiatives introduced to address the main challenges currently faced in order to successfully restore and scale up business operations in the locality amid the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The final evaluation is on October 12, 2021 at 10:30 in the morning via zoom.

In the forthcoming judging, the jury will take into account, among other things, the economic status of the city, such as the number of registered  enterprises and new businesses, total investment generated by newly registered businesses, number of commercial buildings with permits, number of  LGU employees, banks , micro -financing institutions, state of unemployment, underemployment, crime and incidents of poverty.

Further, they will examine the policies implemented by the LGU in terms of business recovery and job preservation and how it engaged the stakeholders such as local chambers and industry associations. Also, they will look into the LGU’s initiatives to engage and collaborate with the private sector to achieve sustainable local economic development.

Because of this very challenging time, the criteria for this year also put more emphasis on health and safety initiatives to incorporate innovative strategies or programs that the LGU has implemented to protect and improve the general well-being and health of its constituents, including their strengths. Moreover, they will also consider how the city government promotes compliance with health and safety requirements. They will also analyze innovative actions in the field of delivery, management and maintenance of health services, as well as actions to contain disruption in the business sector.

This would suggest that the city’s drive to create a proactive, resilient and organic business climate is paying off, despite the onset and aftermath of the pandemic.

Looking back about a year ago, Koronadal also qualified for the final of the same prestigious award – giving body, as well as Cagayan De Oro City. They were the only LGUs in Mindanao to win a special citation.

The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry is the largest business organization in the country that holds the annual search to identify and reward LGUs that consistently employ dynamic, innovative and business-friendly practices in their localities.

With the strong leadership of the current administration, a long list of successes and local initiative programs, as well as a series of preparations, the City of Koronadal is more determined to be declared as “Most Business – Friendly LGU” this time around.
