December 12, 2022

The City of Koronadal added another trophy after winning three awards from the National Nutrition Council (NNC) Region XII, during the Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony held at The Farm @ Carpenter Hill last November 29, 2022.

The activity culminates with the National Nutrition Awarding Ceremony, which recognizes LGUs for their outstanding performance in nutrition program management and implementation, as well as nutrition service delivery to communities.

One of the awards given to the city was the Special Award-Nutrition Program Management, which is a program designed to increase the city’s efforts, commitment, and burning desire to sustain and improve its health programs, which benefit the residents.

According to City Nutrition Action Officer (CNAO) Nancy Adalin, the special award is the NNC’s highest award and will pave the way for the presidential award, but the city must first become a grand slam special awardee before reaching the presidential award.

Meanwhile, the innovations of the said office are the program “Nourish a Child” where the local government is partnering with Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) and private individuals as sponsors for youth in need of weight rehabilitation and the participation in the flagship program of City Mayor Atty. Eliordo Ogena, the Barangay Empowerment Program.

Recognized for the city’s programs aimed at reducing malnutrition, the National Nutrition Council (NNC) Region XII gave the city the Regional Awardees for an Innovative Service deliveries on Eradicating malnutrition-for Enabling Program or RAISE Award.

“It was a collaborative effort of various departments that led us to success. One office cannot deliver adequate health and nutrition services to the community”, Ms. Nancy Adalin said on their collaborative achievements.

She also emphasized the importance of the support and commitment of those offices in addressing nutrition concerns and sustaining nutrition strategies.

This year, Ms. Melanie Azuelo, a BNS of Barangay Concepcion got the 3rd Runner Up spot for the 2021 Regional Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar (BNS) in the entire region.

Apart from the partner offices, she also commends the contribution to nutrition development of the Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) in the city. “Our BNSs are important, they are much closer to the communities, they are a really big help in our community”, Ms. Adalin said.

Whilst, CNAO Nancy Adalin received a certificate of participation for the 2021 Search for Outstanding Nutrition Action Officer who has served as a full time CNAO for just over one (1) year.

The activity was held yearly to recognize local government units and Local Nutrition Focal Points who excelled in managing the implementation of their nutrition programs and providing nutrition services, thereby improving their nutrition situation.
